a) The Irish Society for Immediate care (ISIC) has a vision of Pre-Hospital Emergency Care* services in Ireland being delivered in an equitable manner, to the highest international clinical standards, and to the highest international standards of effectiveness and efficiency.
a) The Irish Society for Immediate Care (ISIC) exists to promote and enhance the development of Pre-Hospital Emergency Care* in Ireland
a) To promote and enhance the emerging speciality of Immediate Care* in Ireland
i) This will be done collaboratively with relevant partners by:
(1) Helping identify issues, challenges and gaps in existing immediate care arrangements in Ireland, while helping to identify solutions, for example:
(a) Regarding the delivery of Immediate Care services in Ireland
(2) Promoting Immediate Care education and training
(a) e.g. by signposting members to approved educational courses, conferences, etc
(3) Promoting and where possible enhancing the development of Immediate Care providers including community-based first responder schemes
(a) e.g. by working with the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC), The Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), An Bord Altranais, the Ambulance Service, etc., to help where appropriate develop standards and resources to assist practitioners in delivery of high quality Immediate Care
(4) Providing support to Immediate Carers in Ireland (a) e.g. by providing advice, forums for debate, networking, etc
b) To promote the provision of Immediate Care services in Ireland
i) This will be done in addition to the above by highlighting where appropriate the requirement for inter-and intra-service planning and co- ordination
c) To promote the development of a multi-disciplinary approach to the provision of Pre-Hospital Care services
i) e.g. by networking with appropriate organisations, encouraging multidisciplinary debate at meetings and conferences, and encouraging the development of such where appropriate
d) To provide a professional voice for Immediate Care and Immediate Carers in Ireland
i) This will be done by
(1) Provision of forums for debate, both real and virtual (web-based), as well as via published newsletter and through medical and other press as appropriate
(2) The ISIC committee being accessible to its members by email, conference etc to raise matters with PHECC, ICGP, etc as appropriate
e) To contribute to the development of standards and training
i) This will be done by
(1) Development of links with PHECC, ICGP, IHF, European Resuscitation Council, etc
f) To establish links with other organisations with similar service orientated interests both nationally and internationally
i) This will be done by
(1) Identifying the list of key organisations and key contacts
(2) Making contact via the Chair/ Vice chair with these organisations as appropriate
a) We wish to be known as
i) A not-for-profit organisation
ii) An organisation which promotes professional clinical excellence in the field of Pre-Hospital Immediate Care
iii) An organisation focussed on patient care
iv) An organisation which is sensitive to the needs of its members
v) An organisation which promotes a truly multi-disciplinary approach
vi) With the highest standards of openness, transparency and democracy
a) *Pre-Hospital Emergency Care, also known widely as “Immediate Care”, incorporates the emerging new medical speciality of Immediate Care, as well as community- based and incident-based healthcare provision in unscheduled, emergency situations. Healthcarers providing care in these circumstances include healthcare professionals, other emergency services who provide emergency care and lay-responders.
